here's my camera. using vm95. c-4000

http://www.steedgroups.com

As you can see that camera is inside a window pointing at cul de sac. you can see trees in the middle of the cul de sac.

I would like to know what it would take to locate the c-4000 in the cul de sac and point it at the building...probably 30 to 50 feet away

Any thoughts?

You'll need to extend the Camera's power and USB cables to the cul de sac. Either aerial or underground in conduit. It's all low voltage.

For the power, use your regular power supply and splice some 18-20ga wire between the transformer and the plug to extend it.

The USB can be extended using either a "powered" USB Etender or several "Active" USB Cable Extensions. Active USB Cables are usually about 16 feet each in length but you can connect several in series to get enough length. Active USB Cables have the plugs attached so you would need to take that into consideration when selecting your counduit size. Powered USB Extenders usually use Cat 5 Cable which is easier to pull through the conduit but they are more expensive than Active USB Cables.

Of course you'll need a weatherproof camera housing. Contact Nick at EVS. They may have some used housings that you could purchase.

Sounds like a fun project. Good luck.

Hi hyrumster2,
I am using a 20 ft cable connected to a powered usb hub with no issues even though it seems like this length is not recommended. 30-50 feet may be a little far without a powered extension as wwestphal suggests.

What sort of structure are you planning to mount your camera on? Is it on a tree or under an eve or something? the cameras are surprisingly tough in my experience as far as temperature is concerned. I have my c-4000 camera in the mountains where the temperature fluctuates from max 100 in the summer to min 15 in the winter. My "housing" is a ziplock bag with a hole cut out for the lens :) It has been going for 1.5 years with no issues. I also sent you a private message that you can check in your inbox.
