I wanted to add a second camera to my system and I noticed on the "Hobbyist and Entry-Level Kits" page that among other cameras, the C720 was supported. So I eBayed a C720.

My problem is that I can't get it into PC control mode. Is there a special trick with this camera to go into PC Control Mode? Does it have to be in PC Control Mode to work with VM95? Is there any special modification needed to the camera to make it work?

Your help is much apreciated!

You can see how to get the camera into PC control mode by looking at the sticky thread in this same forum. It should be fairly easy.

Also, select C-730/C-750 when adding the camera under the digital camera menu.

If you are having further problems, I'll be glad to help.

I have followed the posted instructions to get the camera into the PC Control Mode and they don't work. I've even followed alternate instructions I've found for earlier c700 series cameras where the memory card is removed and the door is closed. Nothing seems to work.

One consideration is that on various other websites that make software to drive Oly cameras and other digital camera help sites, it is written that the C720 does not have a PC Control Mode. I also see no indication of PC control mode in the documentation for the camera. The other camera on my VM95 system is a C4000 which was easy to get into PC Control Mode using the instructions you've posted. The camera I bought is the C-720UZ. Could it be that there two different models of C-720s (one "ultra zoom" and another non-"ultra zoom")?

Any thoughts? Has anyone set up systems using the C-720?

Thanks again for your help.

Ok,

Sorry to break the bad news to you but I just checked with the software engineer and the 720 is not supported. I apoligise. My suggestion is you put it back for sale on ebay and pick up a 730 or 750. These are 100% for sure supported. Once again, sorry for the confusion.

Regards,
N

Thanks Nick for clearing that up. One last quick question, will VM95 support two of the same type of digital camera? What I'm thinking of doing is getting another C-4000 for my system. Both cameras are hooked up via USB. The software will be able to differentiate them though, right?

P.S. Anyone want to buy a gently used C-720?

Yes, upto 4 cameras are supported per PC. You do have to make sure they are labeled in the "options/digital cameras" panel. It will not matter if the USB port is switched or moved to a different usb port as long as you label them. In regards to the availble 720UZ, you could easily keep it as a personal camera. The 700 series olympus cameras had decent optics...

Later,
N
