Can VM95 power up the Kodak DC4800?

Hi Marmic,

The dc4800 kodak camera cannot be power cycled or powered on by vm95 without modification to the camera and a hobbyist kit from us.

VM95 would send a serial command to a mcu, which would intern close a relay or pull a signal low depending on the circuit.

The camera mod requires disassembly of the camera shell and top circuit board and a fine tip soldering iron. You would then solder two wires across the "power on" switch on the top of the removed circuit board. Run the wires out to our circuit and then it would work.

It's a very complicated and delicate camera on the inside as I have turn a few into usless bricks myself. First danger is when removing the top circuit board there is a light sensing LED protruding from the bottom which can damage a brittle ribbon cable. Solution is to insert a small flathead screwdriver and press gently on the top of the ribbon cable and lift up and out the top circuit.

The next problem is soldering to the tiny pins of the button without damaging them. It would be handy to have a DMM ready to find which two pins make a contact when the button is pressed down. this is important because the switch is a double pole switch.

And if you want to go through all that then the last problem is reassembling the camera, running the two wires out (you have to drill a hole somewher in the side of the camera) and contacting us to buy a hobbyist kit to controll the two wires you made.

All that said: you will void your camera warranty if you have one, we are not responsible for any damaged cameras or burnt fingers!
